Domain Registration Instructions
INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILLING UP THE DOMAIN REGISTRATION TEMPLATE
(1) DOMAIN NAME INFORMATION:
(1.1) REGISTRATION TYPE:
- Enter N (New) if you are requesting for
a new domain name. Please check that a domain name is available,
before submitting the template.
- Enter M (Modify) if you are one of the current
contacts (administrative or billing or technical) for a .in domain
name that has already been alloted and you want to modify or update
the current domain name information for that particular domain.
Please check the current domain name information for your domain,
before submitting the template.
- Enter D (Delete) if you are the current
administrative contact for a .in domain name that has already
been alloted and you want to cancel the domain name.
Note: Transfer(modification) of domain name
is not permitted. You will need to apply afresh for any new domain
that you wish to register under .IN
(1.2) DOMAIN NAME:
Enter the fully-qualified domain name that
you wish to register under .IN
eg: yahoo.co.in, indianrailways.gov.in, dts.in
- Generic names
are not allowed. (eg. news.co.in, shipping.gov.in will not be
allotted)
- For domains under
all categories, except ind.in and gen.in, the domain must be derived
from the name of the organisation name/entity. (eg. a registered
company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited can opt for a domain
bhel.co.in but NOT xyz.co.in or bharat.co.in)
- Select the appropriate
domain name category which corresponds to the type of the organisation/entity
as outlined in this table. (eg. an academic institute Indian Institute
of Technology, Bombay can opt for a domain iitb.ac.in but NOT
iitb.firm.in or iitb.mil.in)
- Please refer
to the conditions and
requirements to register a domain under .in
- Check the syntax for choosing a domain
under .in
(2) GENERAL DETAILS:
(2.1) NAME OF THE ORGANISATION/ENTITY:
Enter the name of the organisation/entity that
is being represented by the domain name being requested.
eg: Candidinfo.com.
- The organisation/entity mentioned here will
be the holder of the domain name that is being requested.
- This should be the name of the organisation/entity
that will be USING the domain name.
- Internet Service providers(ISPs)/Web
Service providers(WSPs) submitting registrations on behalf of
their customers, should give the name of the customer, and not
the name of the ISP/WSP.
(2.2) A BRIEF DESCRIPTION
OF THE ORGANISATION/ENTITY/ DOMAIN:
Give a brief description of your organisation.
- This description should clearly indicate
the type of your organisation.
- It may also indicate the purpose for
registering the said domain.
(2.3) ADDRESS OF THE ORGANISATION/ENTITY:
Enter the office address of the organisation/entity
which is requesting for the domain.
- For domains under all categories, except
ind.in and gen.in, the organisation/entity applying for the domain
name must have their office in India.
- For every registration, we need administrative,
technical and billing contacts for a domain. Each contact person
MUST have an operational e-mail address.
(3) CONTACT DETAILS
(3.1) YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS
Enter your e-mail address.
(3.2) ADMINISTRATIVE CONTACT:
Enter the details of the person who will act
as the contact point for administrative and policy issues for the
domain.
- He should be a person from the organisation
which is the ultimate user of the domain.
- He need not necessarily be a person
running the nameservers for the domain.
(3.3) BILLING CONTACT:
Enter the details of the person who will act
as the contact point for the payment related issues pertaining the
domain.
- Payment notifications will be sent
by e-mail to the billing contact.
- After allotment of a domain name,
the Internet Domain Name Registration Certificate and the money
receipt will be sent to the billing contact.
- Renewal notices and reminders regarding
payment will be sent to the billing contact.
- He need not necessarily be a person
from the organisation which is the holder of the domain name.
- The billing contact may be the ISP/WSP
from whom you are subscribing the Internet services.
(3.4) TECHNICAL CONTACT:
Enter the name of the person who will
be act as the contact point to handle the technical aspects of the
domain.
- The technical contact will be responsible
for running the primary name server for the domain.
- The technical contact will be maintaining
the name server software and the DNS database zone files.
- He need not necessarily be a person
from the organisation which is the holder of the domain name.
- The technical contact may be the ISP/WSP
from whom you are subscribing the Internet services.
(4) NAME OF THE INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER/WEB
SERVICE PROVIDER:
Mention the name of the ISP/WSP from whom you
are subscribing the Internet services for operating the domain name
servers.
eg. VSNL, Satyam, Freeservers etc.
- The ISP/WSP can be located in ANY
PART of the world.
(5) NAME SERVERS:
- It is necessary to run domain name
servers(DNS servers) for the domain being registered. These servers
provide the service for translating domain names to IP addresses
for hosts in the domain
- These name servers may belong to either
the organisation or the Internet Service Provider/Web Service
Provider(ISP/WSP).
- The ISP/WSP can be located in ANY
PART of the world.
- The name servers can be located in
ANY PART of the world.
- It is recommended that there are at
least two independent name servers(primary and secondary name
server)
- It is mandatory to run atleast the
primary nameserver for the domain.
- The name servers must be up, permanently
connected to the Internet, and configured correctly to respond
to DNS requests for the domain, before the application is submitted.
- Establishing the primary and secondary
name servers in physically separate locations and on different
networks is strongly recommended.
(5.1) PRIMARY NAME SERVER:
Enter the complete host name and the corresponding
IP address of the primary nameserver.
(eg Host name: dns.vsnl.net.in corresponding IP address: 202.54.1.30)
- It is necessary to run the primary
name server for the domain.
- Please check that the host name of
the name server is spelled correctly.
- The IP addresses correspond correctly
with the host names of the name server.
(5.2) SECONDARY NAME SERVER(S):
Enter the complete host name and the
corresponding IP address of the secondary name server(s).
(eg Host name: ns1.delhihost.com corresponding IP address: 202.71.129.33)
- It is not compulsory to run the secondary
name server(s) for the domain.
- Please check that the host name of
the name server is spelled correctly.
- The IP addresses correspond correctly
with the host names of the name server.
- Please duplicate the fields if you
have more than one secondary name server.
